Our Story

Shatter the Silence began during an honest late-night conversation about new relationships, old ones, and the things we continue to carry long after abuse has ended.

Whether someone uses the word victim, survivor, or neither, the aftermath of abuse can be devastating, life-changing, and deeply personal.

After recognising how much our own experiences still affected us, Shatter the Silence was born.

Created to provide resources, information, and support, Shatter the Silence is here for anyone who has experienced abuse, is experiencing abuse, or is afraid they may be at risk.

With two registered Domestic Abuse Champions in place to offer guidance and signposting, our aim is to open up honest conversations, make it harder for abuse to hide in silence, and help people feel able to reach out when they are ready.

Through resources, reflections, shared stories, and conversations with charities, survivors, public services, and others working in this space, we hope to highlight the support available and gently challenge the stigma that still surrounds abuse.

We also are excited to introduce Safe Harbour - the newest space within Shatter the Silence.

Full of reflections from one of our founders on finding yourself again after abuse has ended, it is a deeply personal record of their journey and experiences after walking away.

What many don't talk about is how hard it can be to relearn how to navigate a world that can feel very unforgiving.

Safe harbour tells that story through personal blogs, lived experience and honest reflections on what it means to rebuild after abuse. Sometimes tender, sometimes humorous, but always open and real, it explores the messy, emotional and often unexpected journey of finding yourself again.

From learning to trust again to understanding who you are now, Safe Harbour follows the parts of recovery not spoken about and rarely considered, because there is life beyond abuse, and with the right support, information, and compassion, you can find it.
