Creative Expression
Often, when abuse is prevalent, it can be almost impossible to put feelings into words, especially when it is difficult to understand them ourselves.
Creativity allows you to process and express feelings that may be too much to say out loud. It can be a safe and extremely powerful release - expecially when you are living with the aftermath of abuse or trauma.
You don't need to be an artist.
It doesn't need to be perfect.
This is about letting yourself feel, and the freedom to help you find your voice again.

Suggestions for creative expression
-
Art journaling – Combine words, colour, and imagery to explore emotions. No rules. Just expression.
-
Music – Make a playlist that reflects how you feel or helps you shift your mood. Sing. Drum on a pillow. Let the music hold you.
-
Collage making – Cut up old magazines, photos, or newspapers to create visual representations of how you feel or want to feel.
-
Dance or movement – Gentle movement, swaying, or expressive dance can release held tension and emotion.
-
Creative writing – Write poems, letters you’ll never send, or stories that let you explore themes in a safe and abstract way.
-
Photography – Your phone camera is enough to allow you to see the world and yourself through a different lens.
