What Does Shattering the Silence Really Mean?

We talk about shattering the silence but what does that really mean?

It means speaking up.

It means no longer allowing the shame of abuse to control your life.

It means holding your head high and recognising how special and important you are - not just as an individual, but within the wheel that is turning in an attempt to stop the stigma.

The more of us who stand tall and refuse to feel shame and guilt, the harder it will become for those who get away with these things every single day, and the more likely it is that it will give someone too scared to leave, the courage to ask for help.

My name is Rebecca. I am one of the two ladies responsible for Shatter the Silence, and I spent 8 years with a man who abused me.

It left me with complex-PTSD, anxiety, panic and depression but I got out. I survived and I am thriving now.

This can be you too. You just need to reach out for help.
